IIT KGP INTERVIEW
QUESTIONS
They asked
me, what you studied in last night, and i told them Condensed matter physics.
So they asked all questions from condensed matter physics.
Ø What are different experiments you
have done in your condensed matter lab?
Ø Explain about Hall method, why we use
it and what are benefits.
Ø Draw schematic diagram of hall expt.
Derive Expression for Hall voltage.
Ø What is the case for holes explain?
Ø What is mobility, write expression
and state which factor affects the mobility of carrier.
Ø What happens to charge carrier when
we apply only electric field?
Ø What is drift velocity, why it is named so?
Ø Why resistance appears in a crystal,
what are the factors affecting it, if we remove all the imperfections from
solid then how resistance will arise?
Ø Explain the origin of band gap.
Ø How the energy level splited when combine more number of atom
explain?
Ø Draw the energy level of H2
molecule, write the Hamiltonian of the system, write the wave function for
electron?
Ø What is graded and ungraded wave
function?
Ø Draw the extended zone band diagram
and reduced zone band diagram of solid.
Ø Why we need reduced zone band diagram?
Ø Draw E-K diagram of a conductor show
band overlapping.
IIT PATNA
They asked
me to choose the subjects for discussion, i choose Quantum mechanics and
condensed matter physics.
QUANTUM MECHANICS
Ø What do you understand about symmetry
of a system and its conservation ?
Ø Can you explain concept of negative
time, how it satisfy schrodinger
equation?
Ø What happen to a quantum system when
it is perturbed by application of magnetic field?
Ø How can you represent a charge
particle in quantum mechanics?
Ø What is difference in energy spectrum
of hydrogen and sodium atom?
Ø Why
2s and 2p energy level of sodium atom is not degenerate as in case of
hydrogen atom?
Ø Why certain specific transtion is not
allowed in atom?
Ø What is the origin of selection
rules?
CONDENSED MATTER PHYSICS
Ø Why we go for reciprocal
lattice, explain its physical significance?
Ø When a metal and semiconductor form a
junction , how the properties of system varies explain, what is its application in
modern technology?
Ø State Motts theory?
Ø What are heavy fermionic system? Do
you think metal is a heavy fermionic
system, yes/no, give reason?
Ø What you think about zero restivity
of superconductor , it is pratically possible or it is the inabily of
instrument to measure such ?
IIT BHUBANSWAR
Ø How you can you measure the
resistivity of a unknown material?
Ø Why we use four probe method instead
of two probe method?
Ø What is brillouin zone draw it and
explain its physical significance?
Ø Write the expression for
semiconductor when we applied electric field?
Ø What is diffusion current ? state
Einstein law of diffusion?
Ø How you can distinguish between
direct and indirect band gap ?
Ø Calculate the density of state for
semiconductor?
Ø How the properties of semiconductor
change when go to Nano scale?
Ø Why we use reciprocal lattice? Can you see reciprocal lattice physically ?

ReplyDeleteThanks bro. It's very useful for ph.d interview aspirants.
ReplyDeleteThanks bro. A lot of students will helpful..
ReplyDeleteI love you
ReplyDeleteThank you so much
ReplyDeleteThank u for ur sharing but pls can you discuss some ans of the above conceptual questions that u have shared then it would be beneficial most of us
ReplyDeleteDuring the last several years the career of the physical and occupational therapy has become quite popular and highly promising. The physical and occupational therapy degree has recently received a significant amount of attention of young people. The physical and occupational therapy has been made a quickly developing branch of the healthcare industry, which is the fastest expanding field in the United States of America. Physical and occupational therapy has been honored with so much of people's attention among the other branches of the healthcare industry due to several major reasons. Positive Physics
